Looft Hall is also home to "The Early Days of Kanesville" by Grant Wood.  The 19x6 foot mural depicts Council Bluffs from the vantage point of one of the bluffs, probably where Mercy Hospital now stands, and looks toward the west down Broadway, where only a steamboat is visible on the horizon. Grant Wood used an 1849 painting by George Simon as a source of reference.
